PRESS RELEASE – The Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration held a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the reopening of the newly renovated Tamuning Gym, one of several major capital improvement projects aimed at revitalizing community spaces across the island. Governor Lou Leon Guerrero joined local leaders, athletes, and residents of Tamuning, highlighting the gym’s transformation as a milestone for both Tamuning and the entire island.

“This gym isn’t just for Tamuning—it’s for all of Guam,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “It’s where our youth stay active, where athletes train and compete, and where our families gather and grow together. These upgrades mean more opportunities for health, connection, and community.”

Renovations to the Tamuning Gym include:
● Full roof repairs
● Exterior shell insulation for improved temperature control
● Upgraded painting, bleachers, and flooring
● Court resurfacing and grading to meet FIBA standards
● Installation of a new scoreboard, basketball rims, and roll-up windows for better airflow

The Department of Interior-funded project was completed by Canton Construction at $966,771.49. This project is part of the administration’s larger initiative to invest in safer, more accessible recreational facilities. The Tamuning Gym now joins a growing list of community centers that the Leon Guerrero administration has upgraded, including completed renovations at the Agana Heights Gym and Baseball Field, Dededo Gym, Barrigada Gym, and Merizo Gym.

Additional upgrades are currently planned in Mongmong-Toto-Maite, Asan, Piti, Humåtak, and
Inalåhan.
“Our commitment is clear: every village deserves functional, welcoming spaces that encourage wellness, support youth development, and bring people together,” said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “This gym is proof of what happens when we invest in the places that matter most to our families. It’s about more than repairs—it’s about building pride, purpose, and opportunity in our communities.”
