The St. John’s Knights remain in the thick of things in the ISA/IIAAG Boys Volleyball League after a tough 22-25, 25-19, 20-25, 26-24, 15-10 win over the Sanchez Sharks on Good Friday night at the St. John’s gym.
“Just a great game between two talented teams,” long-time St. John’s coach Chris Shepherd said.
Down two sets to one going into the fourth, Knights libero Elijah Dewan came up with critical serves and pivotal passes, especially late in the set, to lead St. John’s to a fifth and final set after etching out a 26-24 fourth set win.

According to Shepherd, setter Jerrick Palomares led a well-balanced attack and middle blocker Andrew Baker came up with some big-time kills and blocks throughout the match. Outsider hitter Oliver Schaumann came off the bench and delivered some critical kills to help spark the Knights.
“Overall, I think St. John’s played with grit and determination,” Shepherd said.
After starting the season on fire, the Sharks have cooled off, losing their third straight game to drop to 3-4.
It was the only game of the night as the rest of the league take the remaining Spring Break off.
