HERITAGE DAY MOTOCROSS KICKS UP HUMATAK DIRT

Humåtak Spanish Bridge attracts racing crowd

PRESS RELEASE – The village of Humåtak transformed into a buzzing hub of adrenaline and energy this past weekend as it hosted one of the island’s anticipated motocross events – the 2025 Guam History and Chamorro Heritage Day Motocross. Riders from across Guam came together to highlight their skills, courage, and passion for dirt biking, creating a thrilling experience for spectators of all ages.

The event, which took place at the Humåtak Spanish Bridge, attracted a diverse crowd of racing enthusiasts, families, and locals eager to enjoy an action-packed day. The course was created by sponsors such as Mid Pac Far East, local volunteers, and officials. The dirt track, set against the backdrop of the lush Southern hills and clear skies, proved to be the perfect setting for a high-energy competition that pushed riders to their limits.

The race featured several categories for both kids and adults, including kids ATV and 2-wheel classes, schoolboy and novice, and expert open classes, allowing riders of all levels to participate. From the rev of engines to the roar of excited fans, the event was filled with intensity from start to finish.

In Heat 1 of the open expert class, competition flared up between Blaze Aiken and Richard Wenden, with J.R. Cepeda slightly behind. The trio, led by Blaze Aiken, ripped around the track in a flurry of dust and adrenaline. Richard, stalling his bike in a corner, allowed J.R. Cepeda to catch up until all three racers were neck and neck. Blaze dominated the race and took first with Richard Wenden taking second. J.R. Cepeda, just seconds behind Richard, took third.

In Heat 2, Blaze instantly pulled to the front of the pack with J.R. Cepeda directly behind. The two battled it out for 15 laps but Blaze Aiken pulled ahead and claimed first. Little John Augon, with Richard closely on his tail, just barely managed to secure the 3rd place spot. Overall, Blaze Aiken took first, J.R. took second, and Richard Wenden took 3rd.

The Schoolboy/Novice class also gained lots of buzz in both fans and racers. Competitors Jonathan Augon and Colton Engling battled it out for the first-place title. In Heat 1, both racers were neck and neck with Colton leading until the last lap. Due to a crash, the yellow flag was put out by officials, forcing both racers to slow down. Jonathan made the illegal move to pass Colton while the flag was still flying. This caused uproar with the fans as Jonathan was now far ahead of Colton. Because of Jonathan’s illegal move, he was docked a position and Colton came out in first. Tensions were high between the boys in Heat 2. But, with a bad start, Colton ended up at the back of the pack while Jonathan led himself to achieve first. Michael Obido took second and Colton Engling, spending the race playing catch up, took third.

Blaze Aiken, a young local who has been racing since childhood, took first place in both the expert open class and the 250cc class, showcasing his advanced skills in navigating the small track. “Motocross isn’t just a motorsport, it’s what brings family and friends together. That’s what makes us a community with the same love and passion,” Blaze said in an interview.

The open class, consisting of mainly adults from ages 20-45, have gained 2 new young riders. Richard Wenden, age 15, took third in the Open Expert Class and second in the 250cc Class. Kanen Arceo, age 16, took third in the 250cc class. These new young riders engaged in a fierce battle with veteran racers, some of whom have been racing for more than 30 years. Richard Wenden said in an interview “I worked hard to race with the big boys, and it paid off.”
