PRESS RELEASE – Guam’s U18 Girls Beach Volleyball Team delivered a statement victory on Monday, defeating powerhouse Australia in three sets 19-21, 21-19, 15-10 at the Oceania U18 Beach Volleyball Championships.
With the win, Guam remains undefeated and will close out round-robin play today, Tuesday, April 8, at 2:40 p.m. (Guam time).
The result puts Guam in strong contention for a spot in the gold medal match, with the top two teams advancing to the final.
“This is a huge win for our girls and for the growing beach volleyball program on Guam,” said Guam Head Coach Manny Guarin. “Playing competitively with a world-class powerhouse like Australia just shows how far our program has come and how committed these athletes are in the process.”
The boys team fell to Australia but secured a bye into the quarterfinals, where they will face the winner of American Samoa vs. Kiribati on Tuesday evening at 6:50 p.m. (Guam time).
All matches are being held at the SIFF Academy in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
