PRESS RELEASE – Volleyball coaches across the island are invited to level up at the “Up Your Game” coaching clinic held on April 19 — a high-energy, one-day training experience designed to inspire how coaches think, teach and lead. The clinic will be led by Nicole Lawlor, former assistant coach for the United States Women’s National Team and a nationally recognized coaching educator. Coaches will dive into a three-hour classroom-based theory from 8-11 am, break mid-day, then hit the court for hands-on training from 3-6 pm at the iLearn Academy Charter School Gym. Registration is $100 per coach and open to all experience levels.
ADVANCED PLAYERS INVITED!
A limited number of advanced female volleyball players will be invited to participate in the on-court portion of the clinic for just $50 per player. This is an exclusive chance to train in a high-level environment with direct instruction from a former U.S. Women’s National Team coach. Athletes will get a first-hand look at the principles used by elite programs and gain valuable feedback to elevate their game. Space is extremely limited, and spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. As mentioned earlier, the clinic will occur from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the iLearn gym.
CLINIC OVERVIEW
“This clinic is designed to challenge coaches to reflect on and refine their coaching philosophy,” said Coach Lawlor. “We’ll explore various topics including purposeful practice design, effective communication, player mindfulness and emotional regulation, feedback strategies, and athlete-centered training. A major focus will be aligning every coaching decision with long-term athlete development goals.”
Al Garrido, Director and Owner of the Legacy Volleyball Club Guam, is excited about this opportunity.
“This clinic will incorporate many of the principles that will help all levels of coaches. I know that Coach Lawlor utilizes many of the principles proven by the Gold Medal Squared style of coaching,” said Garrido. “We’re excited to offer something that mirrors how the U.S. National Teams approach teaching the game – using proven methods rooted in years of elite experience and research.”
“For youth volleyball, the significance of GMS is profound. It equips coaches with tools to create intentional, fast-paced, and athlete-focused environments where players learn skills faster and become smarter, more confident decision-makers,” Garrido said. GMS also supports long-term player development by focusing on how to teach rather than just what to teach, making it ideal for clubs, schools, and development programs aiming to build strong foundations, according to Garrido.
