WOMEN’S FASTPITCH TOURNEY WINDS DOWN THIS WEEKEND

High school and Open divisions play for championships on Sunday

PRESS RELEASE – The GHOST Energy Fastpitch tournament will be coming to a close this weekend for both the High School Division and Women Division. Tournament Director, Keith Hattig, stated, “the past two weekends were filled with fun competition and sportsmanship, all in the pursuit of continuing to keep the fast pitch softball world alive for our island.”

He continued to state that the summer leagues serve two purposes: (1) Continue to fuel the fire for this sport for the current and future generations and (2) Allow the prior generations the opportunity to step back onto the field and participate in the sport they have grown up with.

“I like to thank the participation of our high school teams: Peachy Nenis and Cherry Nenis (coached by Russell Maratita, Meagan Maratita, and Kin Fernandez), Islanders (coached by Dave Cruz, Emma Iriarte and Emani Gutierrez), and team Aces (coached by Mike Perez and Coach Campos); and the Women’s Teams: Butterfingers (coached by Russell William Maratita and Mike Concepcion), team FIGO (coached by Lucy Calvo and Pete Torres), and team Aces (coached by Mike Perez and Paul Campos),” stated Hattig.

Hattig would also like to recognize the tournament’s many volunteers and the main sponsor, GHOST ENERGY DRINK and tournament supporters: W5, J Goodman, Piti Mayor Jesse Alig and the Piti Mayor’s Office.

So, clear your schedule and stop by Piti Field for our final weekend!

Ashley Samaniego and the UCLA Bruins made it to the NCAA Women’s Final Four, before losing to eventual champions UConn.
The 2007 Simon Sanchez graduate is in his first year with the Bruins women’s basketball team as the Director of Athletic Performance. This after years at California State University, Northridge in the same capacity.
Coach Ash must be bringing some goodness to the Bruins as UCLA is currently ranked #1 in the country and earned its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
