METGOT: COWBOYS DOMINATE EAGLES

Maysho guides Southern with three TD’s

By Nick Akimoto

With the Triple J GNYFF playoffs quickly approaching, the Southern Cowboys secured a dominant 27-0 Metgot win over the Eagles Saturday afternoon to remain at second place in the division. With the rain showering down intermittently throughout the game at Eagles Field, the Cowboys were undeterred, as they demonstrated control over every aspect of the game.

At the helm of the offense was quarterback Ezekiel Maysho, who had three touchdowns on the day. In the first half, Maysho connected with speedy receiver Nolan Blas through the air for a touchdown and pushed in another on the ground with a QB sneak after marching his offense down the field.

“I look to catch the ball and run for a touchdown,” said Blas.

On defense, the Cowboys played physical to stuff and stop the Eagles run game. Ryan Jesus was crucial for the Cowboys at noseguard, imposing his will by breaking his way through the Eagles’ line to get into the backfield. Certainly not the only hard hitter for the Cowboys, Jesus was backed up by cornerback Colin Paulino, who knocked loose an Eagles’ QB keeper which was picked up by his teammate, Tristen Fernandez for the fumble six.

“Coach just tells me to do my job,” said Jesus. “I just look to get through and get tackles.”

Makoa Aguigui’s speed was critical to the Cowboys’ success all day as it looked like no one could keep with him all day, including his own cleats. At half time, Aguigui had to put on a new pair of cleats to continue playing.

“My shoes were broken on the bottom. [They] were taki, too,” joked Aguigui.

After lacing up his new shoes, Aguigui caught a pass on the slant from Maysho and turned on the jets top gain 33 yards. The long pass would set up Maysho for a qb sneak touchdown and finish the day for the Cowboys.

LOOKING TO PLAYOFFS

With only a few more weeks in the regular season, the Cowboys sit at second place in the Metgot division with one loss. That loss came at the hand of the Outlaws, who have been impressive all season.

“We just have to keep working hard. We have to work on wrapping up our tackles and finishing,” said Maysho on looking forward to postseason.

With this loss, the Eagles now sit at a 4-3 record. While they await the results of the rest of the weekend’s matchups. Next week will be crucial to determine their spot in the playoffs.
