LIMTIACO IS UOG’S STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Sports awards given to Triton Athletics

PRESS RELEASE – The University of Guam Triton Athletics and Field House Department give out their annual awards on Tuesday night, as the department gave out awards to 10 varsity teams that played during 2023-24 academic year for UOG. The awards were highlighted again by the Student-Athlete of the Year Award, given this year to Isaac Limtiaco, of the Men’s Volleyball team, who was the Most Valuable Player for both the men’s beach team and regular indoor volleyball team.

10 players were named Most Valuable Players for their teams, and they will be featured in August, as part of the Champions of Triton Athletics presentations and their pictures will be feature on a wall in the field house.

Awards were also given out for Best Offense, Best Defense, and a Triton Award, which was given to special players on the team.

Awards were also given to two Special Events workers, Darryl Navarro, and Isabel-Emma Goodall, for their service to the department over the past year.

The 12 th President of the University of Guam was attendance, Dr. Anita Borja Enriquez, and gave a welcome to the audience in attendance to the event. Dr. Sharleen Santos-Bamba, Senior Vice President and Provost of the UOG was in attendance as well and also spoke to those in attendance. Doug Palmer, the Athletics Director at UOG, gave his annual “State of Athletics” talk at the event.

Ashley Samaniego and the UCLA Bruins made it to the NCAA Women’s Final Four, before losing to eventual champions UConn.
The 2007 Simon Sanchez graduate is in his first year with the Bruins women’s basketball team as the Director of Athletic Performance. This after years at California State University, Northridge in the same capacity.
Coach Ash must be bringing some goodness to the Bruins as UCLA is currently ranked #1 in the country and earned its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
