ISLANDERS WIN BIG OVER BULLDOGS

JFK wins overall, Manalo succeeds for his team

By Eriele Salas

Thursday’s highly anticipated match that was held between the top-seeded singles, JFK’s Nathan San Agustin and Okkodo’s Bryce Manalo, ended in Manalo giving the Bulldogs their only win. Being in the top three last season, the two boys held a match that everyone was eagerly looking forward to.

“These boys play year-round and it’s thrilling to see the level of competition they bring to the court,” said Coach Josh of the Islanders.

The boy’s singles matches were even for both teams. In the first seed, Okkodo’s Manalo defeated JFK’s San Agustin 8-2. Meanwhile in the second seed, JFK’s David San Agustin defeated Kenshin Samortin 8-2 as well.

For the boy’s doubles, the Islanders broke away with two wins over the Bulldogs. In seed one, JFK’s Tyler Ando and Zayne Ayangco defeated Okkodo’s Xander Dizon and Liam Wang 8-3. Ivan Valencia and Ryder Torres in the second seed beat Austin Borja and Zedhryx Hilario 8-0.

The JFK boys won the match over the Bulldogs with an overall score of 26-13.

In the girl’s singles matches, both players from JFK kept a good leading score against their opponents. Islander Mina Noble, who was dubbed the girl’s MVP of last season, also beat her opponent, Cristel Dela Cruz 8-0. In the second seed, Keisha Ayson snatched an 8-2 win against Okkodo’s Tricia Fredeluces.

The girl’s doubles matches for JFK were finished quickly, with both seeds securing a win. In doubles one, Islanders Eliana Cruz and Rianna Bocago defeated Bulldogs Angel Armas and Shantelle Cortez 8-1. JFK’s second seed doubles, Iris Calaunan and Aemilia Miranda, pulled another bagel, respectfully, over Okkodo’s Jacklyn Cuchapin and Shaylene Navarro.

The JFK girls won the match with an overall score of 32-3.

“I believe in our team’s ability to succeed. Building up our mental strength will help us in the rest of our matches this season,” said coach Josh.
