CAMACHO TAKES HONG KONG U22 BOWLING CROWN

Second international youth title for Camacho

PRESS RELEASE – Jeremiah Camacho won his second international youth title, winning the 2024 Hong Kong U22 Storm Championships.

The title was his second championship after winning the Macau Youth Open U15 title in 2017. Camacho defeated Wynsten Wang from Singapore, which is likely one of the most exciting matches in U22 history. Camacho and Wang were both on fire and ended up tying in a high scoring finals match, much to the delight of the crowd at the South China Athletic Associations Bowling Center.

As the game concluded, both players went into a ball-for-ball roll off with the higher count winning the title. The players went back-and-forth for five frames, making the match exciting with some crowd-pleasing trash talking.

After a tension breaking junk and poe set, the door finally opened for Camacho when Wang came in a bit high and left a four pin. Camacho needed to strike.  Under pressure he put the ball in the pocket and carried all ten pins to win the title.

“All I wanted to do was give myself a chance to win. I just wanted to put the ball in play,” said Camacho.

Camacho was awarded with a cash prize along with a Storm 3 ball bowling bag, a Storm Ion Max bowling ball, and the junior storm staffer contract for the year.  But more than that, the honor, the thrill, and the memory of an epic battle.

Also, making the step ladder finals was 19-year-old Evan Duenas, who got eliminated in the match play Quarterfinals 267-266 against local player Hon Nga Pok. Duenas finished the tournament in 5th place receiving a cash prize, Storm Bowling bag, and a Roto Grip Optimum Idol Pearl bowling ball.

Duenas was on fire for the whole tournament, finishing 2nd overall heading into the match play.

It was a strong showing all-around for Team Guam with Eyan Duenas, Evan’s younger brother, finishing 7th in the U15 division.

Sean Lee had a respectable finish for Guam, finishing in 22nd place with a 232 average in the high scoring event. Daniel Lee and David Levy made the cut scores as well and finished 34th and 39th place, respectively.

The 2007 Simon Sanchez graduate is in his first year with the Bruins women’s basketball team as the Director of Athletic Performance. This after years at California State University, Northridge in the same capacity.
Coach Ash must be bringing some goodness to the Bruins as UCLA is currently ranked #1 in the country and earned its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
