$50K PRIZE POOL SET FOR MARIANAS OPEN

Guam’s premier BJJ event set for Oct 12

PRESS RELEASE – The jiu-jitsu community is gearing up for the most  anticipated event of the year as the Marianas Open International Championships returns to  Guam on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Hosted at the University of Guam Calvo Field House, this Gi-only tournament promises a fierce competition with a staggering $50,000 prize pool up for grabs in the male and female Adult and Masters Open Weight Divisions. 

The Marianas Open has long been a cornerstone of the global jiu-jitsu calendar, drawing  athletes from across the globe to showcase their skills on the island of Guam. This year’s event is set to be the biggest yet, with competitors from various countries converging on Guam to vie for top honors. With divisions open to all ages 5 and up, the tournament offers a platform for both seasoned professionals and rising stars to shine. 

For nearly two decades, the Marianas Open organization has been synonymous with  excellence in jiu-jitsu, hosting premier tournaments on Guam and expanding its reach internationally with the Marianas Pro qualifier tournaments in the Philippines, Nagoya, Tokyo, Korea, El Paso, San Diego, and Las Vegas. The Marianas Open International Championships event, a prestigious five-star ranked ASJJF tournament, has further solidified its reputation as a  must-attend competition for elite jiu-jitsu practitioners. 

As the countdown to the event begins, excitement is building among the global jiu-jitsu  community. Final registration is currently ongoing until October 2, 2024. Athletes are  encouraged to secure their spot in what promises to be an unforgettable tournament.

Ashley Samaniego and the UCLA Bruins made it to the NCAA Women’s Final Four, before losing to eventual champions UConn.
The 2007 Simon Sanchez graduate is in his first year with the Bruins women’s basketball team as the Director of Athletic Performance. This after years at California State University, Northridge in the same capacity.
Coach Ash must be bringing some goodness to the Bruins as UCLA is currently ranked #1 in the country and earned its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
