PONY YOUTH BASEBALL ACADEMY HOSTS 7TH SUMMER CAMP

Baseball, social and life skills taught

PRESS RELEASE – Pony Youth Baseball Academy just finished another successful and fun week long academy for aspiring Guam youth baseball players at our JJJ Guam baseball fields at Okkodo High School.

The academy consisted of daily warm ups, stretching, simulated games, group, and individual training stations. The players also received daily presentations about Healthy Lifestyles focusing on the effects of tobacco, drugs, and alcohol on individuals, families, and the community.

The main focus on our presentations was about PREVENTION. Our topics included:
● Why smoking is dangerous to the body and how are body parts affected?
● What causes a person to smoke? What can you do to help a person that wants to stop smoking?
● What is the impact of smoking use on athletes?
● What chemicals are in cigarettes and how are they harmful to the body?
● Changing habits. What are good habits/bad habits?

We wrapped up the week long camp with a Pizza Party at Papa John’s for the players and parents. Along with a guest speaker, former Chief of Police, Fred Bordallo, to reinstall what the kids learned from the previous presentations throughout the week. Each participant received an Academy t-shirt, tote bag, and certificate.

PONY Baseball and PONY Baseball Academy continue to provide opportunities for our island youth to learn, practice, and play baseball. As well as to promote and educate youth and their families about healthy living by exercising, eating right, and learning about the harmful effects of tobacco, vaping, drugs, and alcohol use have on people.

With all of the positive feedback from parents and players we will look to do more youth academies and leagues in the future!

Kids attending the PONY Youth Baseball Academy not only learned the sport of baseball, but life and social skills.

Ashley Samaniego and the UCLA Bruins made it to the NCAA Women’s Final Four, before losing to eventual champions UConn.
The 2007 Simon Sanchez graduate is in his first year with the Bruins women’s basketball team as the Director of Athletic Performance. This after years at California State University, Northridge in the same capacity.
Coach Ash must be bringing some goodness to the Bruins as UCLA is currently ranked #1 in the country and earned its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
