OINGERANG FIRST TO RIDE WORLD TIME TRIALS

History made for Guam cycling

Guam cyclist Edward Oingerang became the island’s first male representative in the World Road Championships.

Oingerang went up against the best time trial cyclists in the world in Wollongong, Australia and finished 47th out of 48 in a time of 51:13 in the 34.2k (21.1 miles) course. The top rider was from Norway in a time of 40:02.

“The experience was incredible,” said Oingerang, who had his wife and daughter with him for support in Australia. “I can’t even explain it. Going into the ramp, listening to the countdown and the super loud supportive cheers from the fans, gave me goose bumps. Then the crowds surround the whole course cheering me on for extra motivation to give it all I have till I got to the finish line. It was unreal.

“Even just knowing that I am racing all the best cyclist in the entire world. The same guys that will be representing their countries at the Olympics. Huge for my progression as a cyclist and huge in showcasing Guam cycling to the world.”

Ashley Samaniego and the UCLA Bruins made it to the NCAA Women’s Final Four, before losing to eventual champions UConn.
The 2007 Simon Sanchez graduate is in his first year with the Bruins women’s basketball team as the Director of Athletic Performance. This after years at California State University, Northridge in the same capacity.
Coach Ash must be bringing some goodness to the Bruins as UCLA is currently ranked #1 in the country and earned its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
