PRESS RELEASE: The University of Guam Triton Athletics is having open tryouts in its four varsity sports
Men’s Basketball – Monday, January 22 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, UOG Calvo Field House
Women’s Volleyball – Tuesday, January 23 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, UOG Calvo Field House
Men’s Soccer – Monday-Tuesday, January 22-23, 4:00pm to 6:00pm, UOG Soccer Field
Women’s Soccer – Monday-Tuesday, January 22-23, 4:00pm to 6:00pm, UOG Soccer Field
To tryout, individuals must be a full-time UOG student (12 credits minimum) with a 2:00 GPA and if you are a first time UOG student this semester, you must have a 2.50 GPA out of high school or 2.00 GPA out of junior college or another four year college. New students must also be full-time at UOG this semester.
Stated UOG Athletic Director Doug Palmer: “Each of our sports need 3-5 new players each semester to fill-out the rosters as we lose student-athletes each term to graduation, academic issues and players who do not get play as much as they wish. And Triton Athletics is committed to giving UOG students an opportunity each semester to join a varsity team.
Palmer also added that the potential to earn an athletic scholarship is possible as well. “And we do offer potential scholarships to talented players. You are not guaranteed a scholarship if you make a team, but if you earn a starting position or become one of our top players off the bench, you may be awarded a scholarship ($500 to $1000 is the average) which can help with tuition or books.
Most teams will begin play at the end of January and the UOG varsity programs are successful with all the UOG teams going 39-1 in the fall semester of 2017, so UOG plays successfully in the leagues that they compete in for competition.
