The final four teams still alive in the Jamaican Grill 11th Annual GFA Cup are inching closer to the 2018 championship as Guam’s premier men’s soccer tournament continues Saturday evening with a pair of semifinal fixtures at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

PRESS RELEASE – The final four teams still alive in the Jamaican Grill 11th Annual GFA Cup are inching closer to the 2018 championship as Guam’s premier men’s soccer tournament continues Saturday evening with a pair of semifinal fixtures at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

The Islanders FC advanced to the semifinals with a 4-2 win over Budweiser Men’s Soccer One League finalists Lots of Art Tattoo Heat with two goals from Devan Mendiola and one each from Kyle Perez and Jordan Jasmin. Riley Jones-Taijeron and Keith Surber scored for LOA Heat in the loss.

The Islanders will next play Bank of Guam Strykers I, 20-2 winners of Gino’s FC from the Budweiser Soccer League Masters Division. Scott Spindel, Clayton Mitchell, Shane Healy, Eddie Huang, Matthew Iseke, Mark Iseke, Aidan Dickson, Bradley Dickson, Alan Thomas, Joshua Calvo, Morgan McKenna, Takumi Odell, Alexander Stenson, and Marlon Evans combined for the Strykers’ 20-goal haul. Shawn Gumataotao scored for Gino’s FC. Gino’s FC’s other goal came on a Strykers’ own goal in the 68th minute.

In the bottom half of the bracket, last year’s runner up NAPA Rovers still are in this year’s title hunt following an 8-0 shutout of Bank of Guam Strykers B. Min Sung Choi finished with a hat trick and teammate Bryan Cadiz scored twice. Kelby Hernandez, Natsuki Recella, and Francis Chargualaf scored the Rovers’ other goals.

The Rovers will next play the Bombers SC, 5-1 winners over the University of Guam Tritons. Joseph Preseault led all scorers with a trio of goals for the Bombers and teammates Roni Choueiry and Travis Elswick also scored. Kyle Legozzie scored UOG’s lone goal.

The Islanders-Strykers I semifinal fixture will kick off at 6 p.m. Saturday, followed by the Rovers-Bombers semifinal match at 8 p.m.
