PRESS RELEASE – Bud Light Golden Hoops Classic (GHC) 2018 Spring Tournament completed its championship game in the open coed recreation division on Sunday at Tamuning Gym.

The Tamuning Typhoons seeded 1 swept the playoffs defeating Team Haddock 93-91 for the title. Typhoons Billy Belger led the offense scoring a game high 30 points and was named MVP. Teammates Tony Hsieh scored 18 points followed by Anthony Brown with 17 points and Edgardo Baza with 16 points. Hsieh received the tournament top scorer award with 290 total points averaging 29.0 per game. Haddock’s Tristan Tapia and Brianna Benito scored 26 points each in the loss.

Sportsmanship played a big role throughout the tournament and Guam Windward Memorial (GWM) was awarded the 2018 Spring trophy. “GWM played each game with a positive attitude and exemplified that exercising and having fun outside of the work place is real,” said tournament coordinator Elsa Ulloa.

Ashley Samaniego and the UCLA Bruins made it to the NCAA Women’s Final Four, before losing to eventual champions UConn.
The 2007 Simon Sanchez graduate is in his first year with the Bruins women’s basketball team as the Director of Athletic Performance. This after years at California State University, Northridge in the same capacity.
Coach Ash must be bringing some goodness to the Bruins as UCLA is currently ranked #1 in the country and earned its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
