
PRESS RELEASE – Papi FC amassed a 6-0 lead by halftime against Quality Distributors and never looked back to win the 2017 Budweiser Futsal League title 12-4 at the Guam Sports Complex Gym Sunday.
The league’s Golden Boot winner Ashton Surber and teammate Marcus Lopez led all scorers, netting three goals each in the win. Ian Mariano and Jan Flores each scored twice and Jason Cunliffe also scored. Papi FC’s other goal came on a Quality Distributors own goal.
Ethan Elwell, Barinedum Bakor, Joshua Pangelinan and Giancarlo Abril scored for Quality Distributors.
In the league’s consolation match, the Bank of Guam Strykers clawed back from a 10-3 deficit to defeat Mosa’s 11-10. Takumi Odell’s second goal of the day with less than a minute to play was the eventual game-winner, as the Strykers outscored Mosa’s 9-4 in the second half to win.
Scott Spindel and Eddie Huang led all scorers with four goals each in the win. Odell scored twice and Sho Hammond scored the Strykers’ other goal.
Riley Jones Taijeron finished with a hat trick for Mosa’s and teammates Gideon Tyquiengco, Matthew Robles, and Seth Surber each scored twice. Kevin Leasiolagi scored Mosa’s other goal.
After the match, the Strykers were awarded bronze medals. After the championship match, Papi FC and Quality Distributors were awarded gold and silver medals, respectively. Additionally, Surber received the Golden Boot award trophy and Papi FC goalkeeper David Drews received the Golden Glove award trophy.
