MARCH MADNESS PACIFIC REGIONAL WRAPS UP 2017 SEASON

The 2017 March Madness Pacific Regional Tournament came to an end on Saturday after 6 days of games for the 16 participating teams at the Coral Reef Fitness Center hosted by Andersen Air Force Base.

PRESS RELEASE – The 2017 March Madness Pacific Regional Tournament came to an end on Saturday after 6 days of games for the 16 participating teams at the Coral Reef Fitness Center hosted by Andersen Air Force Base.

The awards presentation took place on at the conclusion of championship games in the men and women’s divisions. Local club, off island and military teams from Korea participated in the one week tournament.

In the men’s division it was a showdown between Osan Mustangs from Korea and Guam’s Tamuning Typhoons. Osan were crowned the champs after defeating the Typhoons 93-75.

“Osan was a tough team to beat .We had to work our way out of the loser’s bracket to get to the championship game. That was a hard path but the team pulled it off that gave us a chance for a title. We fell short against a disciplined and strong Osan team,” stated Typhoons coach Elsa Ulloa.

Osan’s Aaron Reams was named MVP. Typhoons Joe Blas, Sammy Setik and Christian Kakonda were selected to the men’s all star team.

In the women’s division Guam’s Lady Tooth Fairies placed second after

a 85-68 loss to Osan’s Lady Mustangs from Korea. Osan’s Irene Johnson was named MVP. Fairies Briana Benito, Kat Castro, Iona Evangelista and Darin Santos were selected to the women’s all star team.
