FRIARS/COUGARS IN LINE FOR CUP THREE-PEAT

The Friars/Cougars are in the lead for the 2017-18 Cup as they go for a three-peat.

The 5th Annual GSPN High School Cup standings determine the best all-around athletic program in the IIAAG for the 2017-2018 season.

The cup counts football, cross-country, golf, volleyball, soccer, basketball, baseball, wrestling, softball, tennis, rugby, track & field, and paddling (not counted was flag rugby or junior varsity sports).

The point system is as follows 5 points for All-Island champions and 1 point per playoff victory.

First Quarter Results

Football: FD – 8, GW – 2,  JFK – 2,  Tiyan – 1

Boys Cross Country: Guam High – 5

Girls Cross Country: Guam High – 5

Boys Golf: FD – 5

Girls Golf: Academy– 5

Girls Volleyball: Notre Dame-8 , St. John’s-2, Academy-2, St. Paul-1

Standings after 1st Quarter

1st FD/AOLG, 20 Points: The Friars three-peat in football, The Friars and Cougars take the golf title, and girls finished 3rd place for volleyball.

2nd Guam High, 10 Points: GH earns 10 for Panthers boys and girls cross country titles.

3rd Notre Dame-8 Points: The lady Royals magical run to the championship earns 8 points.

4th GW, JFK, and St. John’s, 2 Points: Each program up 2 playoff wins.

5th Tiyan and St. Paul, 1 Point: The Titans finish a historical 4th place in football and St. Paul picked up a playoff win in volleyball.

The FD Rugby Team head to Virginia to participate in the 14th Gonzaga Rugby Classic on April 12-13. Good luck boys.

Ashley Samaniego and the UCLA Bruins made it to the NCAA Women’s Final Four, before losing to eventual champions UConn.
The 2007 Simon Sanchez graduate is in his first year with the Bruins women’s basketball team as the Director of Athletic Performance. This after years at California State University, Northridge in the same capacity.
Coach Ash must be bringing some goodness to the Bruins as UCLA is currently ranked #1 in the country and earned its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
