FRIARS/COUGARS INCREASE LEAD FOR 2017 GSPN CUP

The 4th Annual GSPN High School Cup standings determine the best all-around athletic program in the IIAAG for the 2016-2017 season.

The Cup counts football, cross-country, golf, volleyball, soccer, basketball, baseball, wrestling, softball, tennis, rugby, track & field, and paddling (not counted was flag rugby or junior varsity sports).

The point system is as follows 5 points for All Island Champions and 1 point per playoff victory.

Standings after 3rd Quarter

1) FD/AOLG: 51 points – The Frougars swept both team tennis titles. FD was the basketball runner-up in a thrilling championship game and the boys rugby repeated as champions. The Cougars were runner-ups in softball and rugby.  

2) GW: 30 points – The Lady Geckos continued their dominance in rugby and may just be the greatest dynasty of any Guam prep program. Boys rugby was runner-up for the second straight year.

3) JFK: 27 points – The Lady Islanders pulled off five wins total to take the softball title to keep the Islanders trend of winning a title every quarter alive.

4) St. John’s: 18 points – The golf titles put the Knights in a high spot, but their second place finish in boys soccer would be the last notable point earners given they have no rugby or softball teams.

5) Guam High/Sanchez: 14 points – The Panthers picked up playoff wins in basketball and softball. Sanchez secured 3rd place in boys rugby, basketball, and softball.

6) St. Paul: 13 points – The warriors rolled to an undefeated regular season and playoff run to the championship.

7) Okkodo/Southern: 10 points – Southern placed 3rd in girls rugby.

8) ND, Harvest, and Tiyan: 4 points – The Titans made it in the girls rugby semifinals.
