Local youth baseball is stepping up this month with the 16U Western Pacific Series Youth Baseball Tournament. Three Guam Elite Teams with the best 13-16 year olds from Guam challenging two visiting select teams from the Pacific Region.

Guam Amateur Baseball Association and Guam Baseball Academy will be hosting the 2nd Annual Western Pacific Series Youth Baseball Tournament. The 2015 Western Pacific Series is scheduled with the visiting FSM and Habagat Select Teams in the 13-16 year age group. International games start Thursday, June 18 with the championship game Monday, June 22 at the beautiful Leo Palace Resort Baseball Stadium.

Three Guam teams- Guam Giants, Guam Orioles and Team Guam made up of Guam’s Elite Players will start pool play on Monday, June 15 and Wednesday, June 17 at Okkodo High School Baseball Field. Two Championship games will be played on Monday, June 22, 3:00 pm. at Leo Palace.

The Western Pacific Series is an annual winner-take all youth baseball championship between participating Guam Teams and baseball neighbors in the region.  The goal and concept of the Western Pacific Series is designed to enhance relationships through friendly, higher level competition from teams in the region to challenge Guam’s best baseball athletes.

Baseball competition also allows the exchange of cultural experiences, further highlighting the importance of developing opportunities for wholesome, social interactions. The Western Pacific Series is considered an international championship tournament of the Guam Baseball Academy Program.

“Sports and baseball is a great way to create lasting friendships.  The 2015 16U WPS is the third Western Pacific Series to be played with Guam winning the 2014 14U and 18U tournaments.  The annual WPS tournaments goals is to foster relationships with other islands in our region and bring teams to Guam to play competitive baseball”, says Justin Bennett, Tournament Coordinator.

Bennett continues, “Western Pacific Series is reviving competitive game play offering young baseball athletes the opportunity to succeed on the field. Most importantly, WPS provides its participants with experiences and opportunities that go beyond local baseball and allow young players to grow to meet their best potential. On behalf of Guam Baseball Academy, I congratulate all of the players and coaches and with them the best of luck in the 2015 16U Western Pacific Series Baseball Tournament.

Guam Amateur Baseball Association is a nonprofit organization with a focus on developing baseball and fast pitch softball on Guam and the Western Pacific region. GABA and GBA enjoyed a successful 2013-14 activity season with multiple leagues, tournaments and clinics for baseball and fast pitch softball players of all ages, with over 250 games of baseball and fast pitch softball that brought out Guam’s young talent.
