WOMEN’S RUGBY SHINES IN INDIA

The Guam Women’s National Rugby did wonders this past weekend in the Asia Rugby 7s Pre-Olympic Qualifier in India.

After dropping their first game to host India 15-5, our women reeled off five straight wins – including a big Day 2 win over Uzbekistan. Guam is the only team to beat Uzbekistan in the tournament.

Guam tied Uzkebistan and India with 4-1 records in pool play but because the other two teams scored more total points in the tournament, we settled to play the Philippines for third place while the other two moved on the the first place match.

We beat the Philippines 19-10 for the third place slot.

Our ladies return home Tuesday night 10 pm.

Ashley Samaniego and the UCLA Bruins made it to the NCAA Women’s Final Four, before losing to eventual champions UConn.
The 2007 Simon Sanchez graduate is in his first year with the Bruins women’s basketball team as the Director of Athletic Performance. This after years at California State University, Northridge in the same capacity.
Coach Ash must be bringing some goodness to the Bruins as UCLA is currently ranked #1 in the country and earned its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
