The season finale for the San Miguel Basketball League unfolded Sunday evening with a pair of big wins in both the divisional games at the Yigo gym. The dynasty that was the Red Horse team came to an end in the quarterfinals of the Division 1 league which Calvo’s Insurance took control of, and the Global Recycling got a big effort from Julius Yu to win the title in the Division 2

Division 1 – Calvo’s Insurance 52, Justice 42

The game got ugly real quick for Team Justice as they went down 17-2 early in the first half and just couldn’t cut back into the large lead with Calvo’s being led by leading scorer Corey Lorenzo’s 16 points and MVP Rashaun Blas’ 10 points.

Lorenzo nailed a three from the corner midway through the first half to go up 15-2, with Blas tacking on two more from the free throw line to force Justice into their second timeout to try and stop the bleeding.

Calvo’s Patrick Taitano go a steal and layup on the inbounds right before the first half buzzer to put Calvo’s up 30-11.

Justice tried to rally in the second half, behind leading scorer Reggie Rechebong’s 12 points, but the large lead from Calvo’s proved to be the difference.

Division 2 – Global Recycling 47, Elite 35

MVP Julius Yu scored 11 of his game high 14 points in the second half, including three straight three point jumpers, to keep the distance on the Elite. It was a close contest by halftime with Global only leading 23-20 at the half, but Yu’s long-distance display put the Elite in a 13-point deficit, 43-30, in the closing three minutes of the game.
