YIGOLOS, A’S STAY PERFECT IN AMATUERS

A full weekend of action went down in the Budwesier Amateur Baseball League at the Leo Palace baseball field.

Saturday Action

 AXE Stars 9, Chalan Pago Amigos 4

WP: Ray Leon Guerrero

StrikeZone Guam POG: Ray Leon Guerrero (Stars) CG, 7ip, 3er, 5k

The AXE Stars got a great pitching performance out of starter Ray Leon Guerrero and Hank Salas was 3-4 with 3 runs to pace the Stars offense to a 9-4 win over the Chalan Pago Amigos. The Stars pick up their first win of the season to improve to 1-3 while the Amigos fall to 0-3.

 Vipers 11, Barrigada Crusaders 10

WP: Rick Fernandez

SZ POG: Rick Fernandez (Vipers) 4-5, 2B, R, 2RBI, SB and Win, 2IP, K, 2H

The Vipers handed the Barrigada Crusaders their first loss of the season with an 11-10 win in 9 innings. Shane McDonald was 4 for 5 with three runs, two double and a triple in the loss. Gerald Santos was 3-5 with 2 rbi and Rick Fernandez was 4-5 with 2 rbi to lead the Vipers. Vipers improve to 2-2 while the Crusaders drop to 2-1 on the season.

Rays 11, Yona Redhawks 4

WP: Jay Santos

SZ POG: Jay Santos (Rays) and Shane Muna (Rays) 2-4, 2B, 2R, 3RBI

The Rays picked up their first win of the year with a 11-4 win over the Yona Redhawks. Jay Santos allowed one run in 4 2/3 innings to earn the win and Shane Muna was 2-4 with 3 rbi to lead the Rays offense. The Rays and Redhawks both even their record at 1-1 on the season.

Sunday Action

Ralphy’s Blue Jays 3 Agana Heights Blues 2

WP: John McDonald

SZ POG: Marcus Certeza (Blue Jays) 3-4 2 RBI 1R game winning squeeze bunt

The Blue Jays Marcus Certeza laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to drive in Matt Barcinas and give the Blue Jays a 3-2 win over the Agana Heights Blues. Certeza was 3-4 with a run and rbi to pick up SZ player of the game. John McDonald holds down the Blues over the final three innings to get the win. The Blues fall to 0-4 on the season in search of their first win while the Blue Jays improve to 2-1.

Northern A’s 9, Agat Cardinals 7

WP: RJ Joe

SZ POG: RJ Joe (A’s) 2-3, 2RBI 1R. pitched a 1 hitter in relief over 4 innings 2K 1 walk 0ER

The defending champion Northern A’s stayed perfect at 4-0 with a come from behind 9-7 win over the Agat Cardinals. Down 5-0 the A’s battled back with a eight run 4th inning and reliver RJ Joe held the Cardinals scoreless over the final four innings to get the win for the A’s. Daniel Cruz, RJ Joe and Jesse Miner Jr had two hits each in the win. Nick Cruz was 1-3 with two runs for the Cardinals who get their first loss of the season and fall to 2-1.

 Dongo Yigolos 7, Talofofo Rangers 6

WP: Cliff Rafael

SZ POG: DJ Cruz (Yigolos)

The Dongo Yigolos scored two runs in the 6th inning to break a 5-5 tie and held off a Rangers rally in the 7th to for a 7-6 win. The game ended in controversy when the Rangers batter Zach De la Cruz swung at strike three and was hit by the pitch with two outs in the 7th inning. The Rangers argued the batter should be awarded first base but the umpire made the correct call declaring the batter out (Rule 6.05f) to end the game. DJ Cruz picks up SZ POG going 2-2 with a run for the Yigolos who stay perfect and tied atop the standings with the Northern A’s at 4-0. Fernando Rabago was 3-4 for the Rangers who drop to 0-2 on the season.

Ashley Samaniego and the UCLA Bruins made it to the NCAA Women’s Final Four, before losing to eventual champions UConn.
The 2007 Simon Sanchez graduate is in his first year with the Bruins women’s basketball team as the Director of Athletic Performance. This after years at California State University, Northridge in the same capacity.
Coach Ash must be bringing some goodness to the Bruins as UCLA is currently ranked #1 in the country and earned its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
