The Southern Dolphins girl soccer team got back to its winning ways by defeating the JFK Islanders 3-0 Thursday evening at the Islanders home field. Southern got a big lift from veteran April Talledo who scored two goals, one off a corner kick and one on a free kick.
“We fixed our problems, but we still need to fix a lot of things. We also just need to play as a team and communicate better on the field while playing our best,” said Talledo on her teams win.

The Dolphins kept the pressure on the Islander defense for majority of the first and second half applying more shots at goal. Talledo scored her first goal, the first of the game, off a corner kick from teammate Zoe Surber to break the dry spell in the first half.
Midway through the second half Talledo scored her second goal as an Islanders defender got called for foul. Talledo squared up from just outside the goal box and sent the ball flying through the net to improve the score 2-0.
“I was aiming for the corner and I was surprised that I made the goal,” said Talledo upon approaching the free kick.
Freshman sensation Colleen Naden was kept out of action until late in the second half where she scored a goal within her five minutes of playing. Naden was nursing an undisclosed soreness, but proved to be fine after netting the games final goal.
Naden got a great look off a through ball and was isolated with the Islanders goalie where Naden took advantage netting the games final score.
The Islanders are still searching for their first win and now drop to 0-4 with the loss while the Dolphins improve to 3-0-1 after tying the Okkodo Bulldogs over the weekend.
