DAY 4 OF THE ASIAN-PACIFIC TOURNAMENT

Guam teams still in the hunt for championships.

(Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga) Guam’s All Star Girls in the Big League division suffered their third straight loss to the Philippines in the Best-of-Five series. The Philippines will be representing the Asia- Pacific Region with their 15-0 win over Guam. The two softball teams were the only representatives for the region.

Girls Softball Seniors Division

In the Girls Senior Softball division, the Philippines defeated Guam’s All Stars 11-1. Guam goes to 1-2, in the Best-of-Five series. Game 4 will be played on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 8:00 a.m. local time.

Majors Division

In the Majors division, Guam used five pitchers for a combined two-hit game beating Indonesia easily 18-1. Gavin Lim had an inside-the-park home run in the top of the 3rd inning ending the day going, 2-2, a double, homerun, 2RBI, and a run. Guam is even at 2-2 in Pool B with a bye on Thursday, July 3, 2014.

Juniors Division

In the Juniors Division, Guam defeated Vietnam, 5-3. Enrique Untalan pitched five-and-a-third innings for the win. T. Hai took the loss. Guam is now 2-0 in Pool A.

Seniors Division

Guam’s Senior Division All Stars edged out the Philippines, 4-3, on a Grand Slam by Javin Delgado in the bottom of the 6th inning. Trailing 3-0 after five-and-a-half, Delgado put Guam in the lead then it was starter , to get the last three outs for his complete game win. Guam is 3-1 and will face Indonesia, Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 8:00 a.m. local time. Should Guam win, they will advance to the Championship Game on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. local time.

Big League Division

Guam’s Big League All Stars shut out the Philippines, 12-0. Bill Quenga pitched four-and-two-thirds innings for the win. Guam is now 3-1 in the two-round robin format. Guam faces Chinese Taipei on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 8:00 a.m. Guam must beat Chinese Taipei to have a chance at getting to the Championship Game.

Ashley Samaniego and the UCLA Bruins made it to the NCAA Women’s Final Four, before losing to eventual champions UConn.
The 2007 Simon Sanchez graduate is in his first year with the Bruins women’s basketball team as the Director of Athletic Performance. This after years at California State University, Northridge in the same capacity.
Coach Ash must be bringing some goodness to the Bruins as UCLA is currently ranked #1 in the country and earned its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
