PRESS RELEASE – Runners are invited to wear their national colors with pride at the 5th Annual Nissan 7.5k Flag Run on June 14, 2014. The race is designed to push the limits of the traditional 5k and can be completed solo or as a two-person relay team. There will also be a 2k Fun Run for the whole family with all race proceeds benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guam & Guam Girl Scouts.
“Since the annual race always takes place near Flag Day, we thought it would be a great idea to incorporate that theme into the event,” said Vanessa Estella, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guam. “This is not only a race but a celebration of people’s heritage and culture.”
An honorary color guard will kick off the event as a salute to the American flag. To recognize the diversity of Guam, participants are also encouraged to wear the national colors of their ethnic homelands.

The partnership between Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guam & Guam Girl Scouts arises from each program’s solid commitment to positive youth development. Last year, race proceeds generated a grand total of $20,000 for the two organizations.
Race highlights include raffle prizes and awards to the top three division winners and 1st overall team in the relay category. Two round trip tickets to Narita or Manila courtesy of Bank of Guam and Delta Airlines will be raffled off as the grand prize. The first 1,000 finishers will receive a dri-fit finisher’s shirt.
Registration fees are $10 per person and $20 per relay team (team of two) in advance. Race day registration costs are $12 per person and $24 per relay team. Participants may register at Hornet Sporting Goods in Tamuning or Nissan Upper Tumon. For convenience, forms may be downloaded at www.nissanguam.com.
