2014 Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships Round 12
Round 12 of the 15 round 2014 Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships was held this past Sunday at the Guam International Raceway located off rt 15 in Yigo. After several weeks of rain the course for round twelve was left rough as Mother Nature had intended with mud holes that were more like pits and jumps that were lined with deep ruts making for challenging and tough conditions. The racing kicked off at noon with the big guns of the sport the Open Motorcycle class and continued for the rest of the day with both atv and minibike classes.
Highlights Results
In the premier Open Motorcycle class the two now three time Guam motocross champion #1 JR Cepeda continued his dominance aboard the Cycles Plus Kawasaki easily out pacing the rest of the field to take the win. Cepeda has been perfect this season having taken the win at every round so far. Cepeda has clinched both the Open Motorcycle and 250cc Motorcycle 2014 class title numerically with three round still remaining on the schedule. Coming in a strong second was veteran rider and hard rock singer Kim Aiken aboard his #57 Kawasaki. Third place went to yet another veteran rider #100 Steve Turo. Rounding out the top five were #768 in fourth and #5 Shawn Aguilo in fifth.
In the Open Kids Minibike class #88 Ry’niko Camacho was in winning form as he swept both mini bike heats aboard his RPM Yamaha supported machine. Taking second was nine year old Sasha Song aboard his Kawasaki who was followed in third by reigning champ #1 Stoney Bucek on the Cycles Plus Kawasaki. Fourth place went to the round 11 winner #25 Ethan Turo with fifth place be taken by #12 Yuna Song.
In the over 40 Veteran class #57 Kim Aikens took the win over #100 Steve Turo in second and James Gallagher in third. Fourth was taken by #25 Dave Kautz.
In the 450cc class #768 James Gallagher took the win aboard his Yamaha with #5 Shawn Aguilo on the Cycles Plus Kawasaki placing second and #19 Zachary Chang finishing in third.
In the 65cc minibike class #50 Owen Turo edged out #2 Blaze Aikens to take the win. Third place went to #23 Jordan Leon Guerrero. Rounding out the top five were #31 Robert Encina in fourth with #76 Deven Encina in fifth.
The final race of the day was the Open Atv class where #1 Robert Bucek aboard the Cycles Plus Suzuki swept his heats to take the win and that classes 2014 championship early with three rounds still remaining. Taking second was #11 John Gilman aboard a Yamaha with #15 Albert Garlitt in third.
Next up will be round 13 of the Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships on Sunday August 31st at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. The thirteenth round of the championships will be open to the public to come out to watch free of charge. Gates open at 9am with racing set to start at noon.
