MATIENZO WINS SAIPAN PIC HALF MARATHON

Guam’s Ryan Matienzo captured the Saipan PIC Road Race half marathon Saturday morning in a time of 1:20:42.

Paul Cruz and Elaine Kwok won their respective divisions in the 10K event.

“It was a clean sweep by Guam.,” said the PIC race coordinator at the awards ceremony.

Other Guam runners who participated in the half marathon were Peri Bowman, Tara Taitano, Yumika Sugahara, Peter Blas and Roby Garrido.

The half marathon started at 5:30 am at PIC in the northern part of Saipan, down to a Garapan by the Hyatt Hotel and back up to the PIC.

Ashley Samaniego and the UCLA Bruins made it to the NCAA Women’s Final Four, before losing to eventual champions UConn.
The 2007 Simon Sanchez graduate is in his first year with the Bruins women’s basketball team as the Director of Athletic Performance. This after years at California State University, Northridge in the same capacity.
Coach Ash must be bringing some goodness to the Bruins as UCLA is currently ranked #1 in the country and earned its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
