Harvest Eagles Marlon Evans played way ahead of his normal position against the Southern Dolphins, though that didn’t stop him from scoring a hat-trick (3 goals) in their big 6-0 victory over the defending champions who are in the process of rebuilding.

“I usually play a different position, against my own goal instead of going against the opponents goal. One of our players, Ricky Katsumata, is representing Guam right now as a part of Matao in Taipei. I don’t do it as good as him, but I’m just trying to do my job and whatever it takes,” said the humble Evans.

Evans scored his first goal early midway through the first half as he put on an array of fancy footwork against the Dolphins defense at the top of the goal box, eventually getting a solid leg in to the left corner of the post to put the Eagles up 2-0.

Harvest got their first score from Takumi Ito as he controlled the ball from the top of the goal box, slamming a shot to the right corner to begin their run.

Right before the half ended, Eagles forward Anthony Dungca snuck past the defense after a great assists from the midfield as he quickly put Harvest up 3-0, taking all momentum away.

Keeping their foot on the gas pedal, Evans scored two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half, showing again his impressive footwork and ability to dance around the defense.

“It was a really different feeling out there today,” said Evans on playing forward. “I have such good teammates who were able to get the me ball and because of them, I was able to perform well today.”

Harvest then got a break away goal in the closing 10 minutes from James Jeong as the Eagle defense cleared the ball giving James a one-on-one with the Dolphins goalie for the score.

Southern appeared to have scored a goal in the first half off a bomb from midfield, but the ball took a fortunate Eagles bounce after appearing to hit the net making it seem as if it went off the post instead.

The refs never saw the ball before the Harvest goalie could snatch it out of the air preventing the Dolphins from attaining possible a 1-0 lead within the first 10 minutes of action.

The Eagles are soaring to a 2-0 start while the Dolphins drop to 0-2, giving six goals in each other their losses. This is very much a rebuilding year for Southern after being one of the top boys soccer schools for the past few years.

“Even though we are coming off two wins our goals from the beginning of the season hasn’t changed. There hasn’t been a huge shift of motivation because we’ve been motivated from the start,” said Evans.
