ASTROS TAKE SECOND 12U TOP GUN TITLE

Saturday at Leo Palace the Yigo Astros held on for a thrilling 10-8 win over the Agana Heights Jaguars to take home the 2014 Youth 12U Top Gun Championship.

(Leo Palace Park)- Saturday at Leo Palace the Yigo Astros held on for a thrilling 10-8 win over the Agana Heights Jaguars to take home the 2014 Youth 12U Top Gun Championship.  Jayce Concepcion would earn Strike Zone Player of the Game going 2 for 3 with a huge double that ignited the Astros 4th inning comeback.

Down 3-1 in the top of the 4th inning the Astros bats would finally come alive chasing Jaguar’s starting pitcher Jonah Peredo.  Peredo held the Astros at boy over three plus inning allowing three earned runs while striking out four.  Rico Miner would start the rally with a single and Jayce and Trey Concepcion would chip in rbi doubles as the Astros stormed back to take a 8-3 lead.

The Jaguars would answer in the bottom half of the fourth inning against reliever Rico Miner with Javhyn Laguana capping a three run rally with a rbi single as the Jaguars cut the Astros lead to 8-6.

Kobe Martinez would lead off the top of the 5th with a single, steal 2nd and steal home extending the Astros lead to 9-6.

In the bottom of the 5th the Jaguars would keep the pressure on with Peredo delivering a two rbi single cutting the lead to 9-8 Astros.

The Astros would add insurance in the top of the sixth inning with Jeremiah Sablan reaching on a fielder’s choice and coming in to score on an error.

Astros starting pitcher would come back in to close out the sixth getting a strikeout for the final out to give the Yigo Astros back to back 12U Top Gun titles.

Miner Championship Game

Sablan allowed 0 earned runs over 3 1/3 inning while striking out three to get the save.  Miner gets the win going 2 2/3 innings allowing two earned runs with four strikeouts.  Trey Concepcion had two hits including a big two rbi triple.

Gavin Lim is tagged with the loss for the Jaguars.  Jobi Andrew hit his league leading fourth homerun of the season for the Jaguars.

In the consolation game the Sumay Santa Rita Braves took 3rd place with a 9-6 win over the Sinajana Giants.

The Brave’s Ethan Lobaton picked up the win with five strikeouts in three innings.  Isaiah Castro was 3 for 3 with a triple, two runs and an rbi to earn Strike Zone Player of the Game.  Andrew Perez was a perfect 2 for 2 with a triple and a run scored.  Ashton Tedtaotao was 2 for 2 with a double, two runs and two walks for the Giants in the loss.

Ashley Samaniego and the UCLA Bruins made it to the NCAA Women’s Final Four, before losing to eventual champions UConn.
The 2007 Simon Sanchez graduate is in his first year with the Bruins women’s basketball team as the Director of Athletic Performance. This after years at California State University, Northridge in the same capacity.
Coach Ash must be bringing some goodness to the Bruins as UCLA is currently ranked #1 in the country and earned its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
