STUNNERZ ZIP PAST SINDALU

The Island Stunnerz were trailing Team Sindalu 8-6 in the first quarter, but a 16-point second quarter gave them a lead they would not let up. The Stunnerz defeated Sindalu 46-27 in the second Guam Women’s Tackle Football League semifinals game of the day after Team Legacy got past the Steel Blazers 28-21.
The Stunnerz have an efficient arial attack, led by quarterback LeeAnn Villagomez, but the team proved Saturday against Sindalu that their running game is their most dangerous asset scoring all 46 points off running touchdowns from four different runners. Villagomez attempted less than three passes each quarter aiding in the run game as well.
“We believe in our coaches and that’s what they put out there today and it all paid off. Whenever my offense needs help, I’ve got their back. I do my best to give them less work because they work a lot,” stated Villagomez.
Trailing 38-14 in the fourth quarter, Sindalu turned to Deana Garcia who responded by scoring off an 81-yard kickoff return touchdown, her second return touchdown of the game, to cut the lead 38-20. A fumble Stunnerz fumble gave Sindalu another break when running back Tiara Rose Santos broke a 78-yard touchdown run to shorten the lead 38-26.
The Sindalu crowd was getting back in the game as well but the momentum was short lived after two big third down conversions by Stunnerz power full back Christine Deleon.
“I just plow through there and whoever is in my way, I hit. I mainly give my o-line credit, they were opening the wholes where I was running through. I can’t say it was easy for me but my o-line made it a little easier,” stated Deleon.
Villagomez added the final touchdown for her team to finalize the score 46-27.

Sindalu’s Garcia scored a touchdown on the opening kickoff which gave her team the early 8-0 lead but Stunnerz Christine Deleon quickly responded by punching in a goal-line touchdown to get the team within two, 8-6.
Villagomez stamped a quick second quarter touchdown to give the Stunnerz the 12-8 lead.
The Stunnerz defense, led by the defensive backs Jen Buyske and Deniece Padilla, did not allow Sindalu to score in the second quarter.
All ready leading 22-8 in the third quarter, Stunnerz speedy running back Lorina Guerrero took a draw-play up the middle for a 15-yard touchdown which stretched the lead 30-8 after a successful two-point conversion. Christina Rapolla of Sindalu responded by scoring a touchdown before the quarter ended which got the Sindalu crowd back in the game trailing 30-14.
The Stunnerz responded again with another running touchdown to open up the fourth quarter on a toss out to Tanya Flores, which gave the Stunnerz the 38-14 lead.
Team Legacy and the Stunnerz will battle it out for a championship for the second straight time but neither team is really calling it a “rematch.”
Villagomez was first to say, “We are a whole different team. They should be expecting a lot from us because we are a lot stronger at heart. Our team wants the [championship] and I think we are going to make it up there.”
