RANGERS, CRUSADERS STAY UNDEFEATED

PRESS RELEASE – The Leo Palace/Jim Beam Amateur Baseball League played triple headers Saturday and Sunday with the Crusaders and Rangers solidifying their spots atop the league and newcomer “691” making come from behind wins a routine thing with a 8-6 extra inning win over Sakudee.  Here are the scores and numbers from this weekend…

Chalan Pago Amigos(2-3) 1 Yona Redhawks(2-1) 3

The Chalan Pago Amigos and Yona Redhawks matched up in the 12 pm Saturday game.  Amigos starting pitcher Boboy Binuya and Redhawks Jimmy Manila would turn in gems with the Redhawks scoring two runs in the top of the 7th to break the tie and take the 3-1 win.

Redhawk’s Zach Castro would break a 1-1 tie in the top of the 7th inning driving in MacCarley Masaharu.  Ryan Palomo would follow with an rbi single driving in Salvador Delfin to give the Redhawks a 3-1 lead.  Mark Parks would close out the Amigos in the bottom half of the 7th inning to pick up his second save of the season and give the Redhawks the win.

Jimmy Manila was named Strike Zone Player of the Game, picking up the win and going 6 innings allowing 1 earned run while striking out seven as the Redhawks improved to 2-1 on the season.  Two time defending champs Amigos fall to 2-3 on the season.

Agat Reds(1-4) 6 Blue Jays(3-2) 7

In the Saturday mid-day matchup the Blue Jays would hold off a late inning rally by the Reds to hold on to the 7-6 win.  Blue Jays’ reliever Brian Santos would come in to shut down the Reds over the last five innings allowing only 1 run and four strikeouts to pick up Strike Zone Player of the Game honors.

Davey Pecha continued his hot hitting for the Reds going 2-4 at the plate.  Pecha also kept the Reds in the game on the mound allowing no runs over the last four innings as the Reds mounted their comeback, but would end up a little short.  The Reds fall to 1-4 on the season.  Donovan Santos, Jared Blea and Austin McKay each collected two hits as the Blue Jays improve to 3-2.

Asan Guns(1-3) 2 Yona(2-2) 13

The Saturday nightcap featured the Asan Guns and Yona each looking for their second win of the season.  Yona would get sparked by the first homerun to clear the wall at Leo Palace Stadium off the bat of Peter Cruz.  Cruz’s blast in the top of the 3rd inning would rally Yona to a 5 run inning as they coasted to a 13-2 win over the Guns.

RJ Mendiola would add a double and a triple at the plate to pace the Yona offense.  Yona starting pitcher Tony Terlaje and reliever Vince Sioco would combine to allow no earned runs over six innings as Yona evens their record at 2-2.  Guns starter Matt Blas went five strong innings striking out five but picks up the loss for the Guns.  Hank Salas was 2-2 at the plate for the Guns who drop to 1-3 on the season.

AMO Cardinals(0-5) 1 Barrigada Crusaders(5-0) 6

The AMO Cardinals and Barrigada Crusaders kicked off Amateur League action on Sunday at Leo Palace Resort.  The Cardinals still searching for their first win have played good ball but have not been able to win the close games.  The undefeated Crusaders would not give the Cardinals a break in their matchup, with solid defense and great starting pitching from Deshon Naputi the Crusaders would stay atop the standings with a  6-1 win over the Cards.

AMO Cardinals came out ready to play ball loading in the bases in the 1st, 3rd and 5th inning just not getting a break or the big hit needed to score against Crusaders starter Deshon Naputi who went 5 innings allowing only 4 hits while striking out five.  Aric Gogue and Eddie Garza would combine to close out the Cardinals in the 6th inning.   Cardinal’s starter Matt Charfourus kept his team in the game allowing only four earned runs over 5 innings.  The Cardinals fall to 0-5 on the season while the Crusaders move to 5-0 on top the Jim Beam Amateur League standings.

Sakudee(2-2) 6 “691”(2-0) 8

“691” is making it routine to win games from behind and their Sunday matchup with Sakudee would be no different.  “691” would use a four run 6 inning to take the lead; Sakudee would tie it back up in their half of the 6th inning and “691” would push three runs across in 8th inning to earn a hard fought 8-6 come from behind win.

Yuber Souwelian picks up Strike Zone Player of the Game with the win on the mound and the game winning rbi at the plate finishing the game 2-4 at the plate with 2-1/3 innings with no earned runs.  “691” stays undefeated at 2-0 and Sakudee evens their record at 2-2.

Talofofo Rangers(4-0) 7 Haggan(1-3) 6

Talofofo Rangers matched up with Haggan in the Sunday nightcap fighting to stay perfect and keep pace with undefeated Barrigada Crusaders.  Down 6-4 in the 54th inning the perfect record looked in jeopardy but the Rangers would score 3 runs to take the lead back and Rangers starter Kagan Rabago would settle down and shutdown Haggan the last three innings to take the 7-6 win.

Justin Candoleta continued to stay red hot at the plate going 3 for 4 as Haggan falls to 1-3 on the season.

Ranger’s Frank Santos and Conan de la Cruz each had two hits to pace the offense while Rabago went the distance allowing four earned runs for the win and becomes the first player this year to earn his second Strike Zone Player of the Game award.  The Rangers stay perfect at 4-0.
