PADDLE AGAINST CANCER RACE THIS SUNDAY

[sixcol_five_last]

PRESS RELEASE – The fourth annual Paddles Against Cancer Benefit Race sponsored by 76/Circle K will take place on March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day. According to SPPC Vice President of Business Development Mark Sablan, he hopes the day will be “green” for all.

Paddle poster“What a terrific day for us to be hosting our fourth annual Paddles Against Cancer outrigger race. In addition to having a multitude of companies and organizations giving their time and money for this worthy cause, our partners and sponsors will also be promoting going green through recycling and waste reduction,” exclaimed Sablan. “Unfortunately, cancer doesn’t take a holiday, but we are working to ensure that this St. Patrick’s Day yields some serious greenbacks to fight cancer.”

The event has residents and businesses teaming together to race outrigger canoes on the shores off Matapang Beach Park. Each team’s $600 donation will benefit the fight against cancer.  Paddlers do not need any experience. Marianas Paddlesports Racing Association will be at the event to teach participants how to race.

According to 76 Retail Marketing Coordinator Jennice Eckert, the company anticipates a very large turnout. “We are so fortunate to have struck a chord with our community and the event just gets bigger and bigger every year with more companies participating and residents coming out as spectators and supporters. We are so excited about this year’s event,” Eckert said.

“The support is bittersweet because it shows the care and compassion that our people have for one another but it also means that too many of our people are affected by this terrible disease. 76 is doing this to save lives and is committed to doing this for life,” Eckert added.

According to statistics, over 300 people every year on Guam are afflicted by some form of cancer. Every week, at least one person dies of cancer. It is the second leading cause of death on Guam behind heart disease.

The event will take place at Matapang Beach Park in Tumon on Sunday, March 17, 2013. To register your team or for more event information, please contact Marivel Anderson at [email protected], 588-7252 or Nicole Murphy at [email protected], 588-7213.

Ashley Samaniego and the UCLA Bruins made it to the NCAA Women’s Final Four, before losing to eventual champions UConn.
The 2007 Simon Sanchez graduate is in his first year with the Bruins women’s basketball team as the Director of Athletic Performance. This after years at California State University, Northridge in the same capacity.
Coach Ash must be bringing some goodness to the Bruins as UCLA is currently ranked #1 in the country and earned its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
