GIANTS END COWBOYS STREAK

After four quarters of play in the Matua division of the GNYFF youth football league, the Giants upset the undefeated Cowboys 21-6 Saturday afternoon at the Tiyan field.
The pressure was on as the top two teams of the Matua division fought for the win. Both teams at one point picked up a string of three penalties either keeping them in the same spot or pushing them back 40 or more yards. After a quiet second and third quarter, the Giants turned things around in the fourth, forcing a safety to start. Next, Giants quarterback Juan King scored a 13-yard run into the end zone to put his team up 15-0.
The Cowboys fired back when quarterback Gavin Leon Guerrero connected with Kam’ron Tenorio for a 22-yard reception. Despite the triple coverage on Tenorio when he made the catch, Tenorio was able to slip away from the defense and booked it into the end zone, making the score 15-6 with six minutes left in the game.
“We played good, we needed this loss to see how it feels to lose, to go into the playoffs strong,” said Tenorio.
With only seconds left on the clock, King struck again with another 13-yarder and the final whistle was blown.

“The boys came out, they came out to play hard, it’s all about the heart, that’s all I told them this week, its all about the heart,” said head coach of the Giants Rich Cotelesse.
In the first quarter, Giants Marcus Manglona jumped into the end zone for a 4-yard touchdown to get his team the early lead.
“That loss we had against the Angels made us stronger, made us a better team and we gotta give it to our line for blocking and everyone on our team, our coaches for coaching. Its hard to beat these guys because these guys are big and strong and skilled, we just had more heart,” said King about the win.
King along with Benny Sablan and Marcus Manglona are the captains of the team. The trio contribute multitudes in games, offensively and defensively.
We did awesome, we played hard, our hardest. We played as a team. I thank all our coaches and it was a good season, said Benny Sablan about the game, which is the last seasonal game.
Manglona followed in suit saying, “I feel that win was good, we wanted it more. The Cowboys are a strong team, one of the strongest teams, that loss against the Angels really affected us, but we came out stronger. and I would like to thank my teammates and my coaches for this season.”
Both teams now prepared for the playoffs. While the Cowboys are hoping to make it to the finals this year, the Giants seek retribution from last year’s loss to the Angels in the championship game. Both teams finish the season with 5 wins and one loss.
