The Eagles and the Islanders faced off in their first game of the 2013 season of the Budweiser Football League. It was the Eagles who came out the victors defeating the Islanders 40-18 at Eagle field Sunday.
The Eagles ended the first half on a high note leading 28-6. Eagles’ Ryan Wessling intercepted the ball with six minutes remaining in the half. Islanders Trevor Nielsen recorded a sack on Eagles quarterback Cory Chinn pushing them back to second down and twenty yards. Chinn, however, answered back with a 44-yard reception touchdown to Ibarahim Mansaray.
The second half opened with the spotlight on the Islanders. A 25-yard reception from quarterback Paul Unger to Craig Quichocho brought them to the red zone. On a quarterback keeper, Unger closed the gap to 28-12.
A few minutes later, the quick feet of Eagles Roosevelt Badgett shook of three Islanders defenders and ran in for a 15-yard touchdown.

The Islanders found themselves in the end zone again when Unger connected with Vince Espinal for a 64-yard reception touchdown. Espinal made the catch at about the 30-yard line then ran wide left to avoid the defense. A key block by Quichocho at the one-yard line allowed Espinal to slip into the end zone making the score 34-18.
The Eagles were at it once more. Badgett nearly broke for another touchdown but was tripped up by an Islanders defender. Reginal Baylor brought his team closer to the end zone after making a 50-yard reception jumping between two Islanders defenders. Running right along the end line, Baylor caught another pass for the the final touchdown of the game.
In the first half, Baylor caught a screen pass and sped down the sideline for a 50-yard touchdown. The Islanders Benjamin Cruz put the Islanders on the board in the first quarter. Eagles Xavier Reyes followed with a 30-yard touchdown down the middle.
“There was a good crowd, a good turnout. The teams were able to get a taste of each other, so its only going to get better as the season progresses,” said league president Angel Calugay.
