CRUSADERS AND A’S MOVING ON

PRESS RELEASE – Barrigada Crusaders 9 Talofofo Rangers 8

Budweiser King of the Diamond Quarterfinal action continued Tuesday night with the Barrigada Crusaders and defending champions Talofofo Rangers facing off with the winner moving on to the seminfinal final four and the loser going home.  The Crusaders would score 9 runs in the 3rd inning and spend the rest of the game holding off the Rangers as they held on to edge the Rangers 9-8 and keep their season alive.

FABL-page-001The Crusaders scored all 9 runs in a big 3rd inning pounding out 9 hits and getting helped out by 3 big Ranger errors.   Eddie Garza led the Crusaders with two hits, a run and rbi during the 3rd inning onslaught.

The Rangers would chip away scoring 3 runs in the 3rd and 4th innings to cut the lead to 9-7.  Kagan Rabago had two hits, run and rbi during the rally.

Cramer would work out of jams in the 6th inning before giving way to the bullpen in the 7th with a 9-7 lead.   Ranger’s Terrance Pablo would greet Crusader’s reliever Clayton Cruz with a double and Andrew Concepcion would follow with a grounder to second base that would score Jose Santos.  The second baseman tried to get Santos at the plate but the Santos slid in before the tag, cutting the score to 9-8 with runners at the corners and no outs.

Angelo Taijeron would line the first pitch to right field that the right fielder was able to snag at his shoe tops for the out and throw to first for the double play and preserve the Crusaders 9-8 lead with the runner at the 3rd not advancing.

Cruz would walk the next two batters to load the bases but get the final batter to ground to the shortstop to end the game and pick up the save.   Crusaders starter Misaki Cramer worked out of jam after jam to get the win going 6 six quality innings.

Deshon Naputi played great defense at shortstop and was 2-4 with a double, run and two rbis to get Strike Zone Player of the Game.  The Crusaders advance to the Final Four and challenge the Sumay Braves in the Wednesday night Semifinal matchup.

Northern A’s 10 Chalan Pago Amigos 5

In other Budweiser King of the Diamond action the Northern A’s and Chalan Pago Amigos matched up Monday night in winner’s bracket action.  The A’s would upset the Amigos 10 game win streak with a 10-5 win over the two time Amateur champs.  With the win the A’s get a berth in the best of 3 Championship Series to start Sunday at Leo Palace Resort.

Jesse Miner Jr picked up his second consecutive Strike Zone Player of the Game going 2 for 2 with 3 runs and 2 walks.  Lorenzo Flores went seven innings to pick up the win allowing 3 earned runs with 6 strikeouts.

The Amigos fall to the loser’s bracket where the face the winner of the Crusaders and Braves this Saturday 3pm in the double elimination playoffs.  Aleton Mesngon turned in a dazzling game at shortstop making two sensational plays late in the game to keep the Amigos close and was 2-4 with a double, 2 runs and an rbi.

Saturday 3pm #1 Chalan Pago Amigos vs winner Braves/Crusaders

Sunday 3pm CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES GAME#1 (best of 3) #2 Northern A’s vs TBD

Ashley Samaniego and the UCLA Bruins made it to the NCAA Women’s Final Four, before losing to eventual champions UConn.
The 2007 Simon Sanchez graduate is in his first year with the Bruins women’s basketball team as the Director of Athletic Performance. This after years at California State University, Northridge in the same capacity.
Coach Ash must be bringing some goodness to the Bruins as UCLA is currently ranked #1 in the country and earned its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
