ASC TENNIS CLASSIC THIS WEEKEND

PRESS RELEASE – A total of 108 tennis matches will be played this weekend in ASC Trust Corporation Family Classic 2013 at three different venues – Hilton Guam Resort & Spa, Hyatt Regency Guam, and the Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort tennis courts.

“The ASC Trust Corporation Family Classic has quickly become one of Guam’s largest local tennis tournaments,” said tournament director Joe Cepeda. “In the family doubles event in particular, we received 35 entries last year and this year, that number went up to 87. I’m very happy to see the popularity of tennis continuing to grow among local families. Registered players, officials and sponsors can be proud to be a part of this tournament, it’s truly a community event.”

This weekend will feature the skilled singles events and family doubles events. The draw for this weekend’s events is available for download from the Tennis Academy of Guam’s Web site, www.tennisacademyguam.com.

Friday is the deadline to register for skilled doubles events, all junior events and the high school doubles events. The skilled doubles events, as well as the high school doubles events will begin the weekend of April 26. The junior singles events begin May 3 and junior doubles events begin May 10. The junior division – singles and doubles – is USTA-sanctioned and participants will be competing for ranking points. This particular tournament is one of several designated tournaments in the U.S. in which junior ranking points are doubled, Cepeda said.

Registration forms are available at Goody’s Sporting Goods, Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort tennis courts, Hilton Guam Resort & Spa tennis courts and the Rick Ninete Tennis Center in Hagåtña. Additionally, participants may download forms or register online at www.tennisacademyguam.com. Participants receive a cap, T-shirt, tournament goodies, and complimentary admission to the tournament’s awards banquet.

For any inquiries, contact Cepeda at 988-7479.

Ashley Samaniego and the UCLA Bruins made it to the NCAA Women’s Final Four, before losing to eventual champions UConn.
The 2007 Simon Sanchez graduate is in his first year with the Bruins women’s basketball team as the Director of Athletic Performance. This after years at California State University, Northridge in the same capacity.
Coach Ash must be bringing some goodness to the Bruins as UCLA is currently ranked #1 in the country and earned its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
