[sixcol_five_last]

PRESS RELEASE – In Jim Beam Amateur Baseball action Thursday night at Leo Palace Resort, Team 691 and the Asan Guns delighted the crowd with a thrilling back and forth game as both teams battle for one of the final playoff spots.   latte-baseball

The teams would match each other with both teams scoring three runs in the  3rd inning and then both teams scoring three runs in the 6th inning to leave the 7th inning for late game heroics.  Hank Salas would answer the call delivering a two rbi double in the top of the 7th and then holding 691 with the tying run on 2nd base in the bottom of the 7th to lead the Guns to a big 8-7 win.

The Guns would start the scoring in the 3rd inning with Lionel Camacho just missing a homerun with a double of the top of the wall in left field giving the Guns a 3-0 lead.  691 would answer immediately with Yuber Souwelian delivering a two rbi double of his own to even the game at 3-3.

Both teams would turn to strong pitching with the neither team able to get on the board until the 6th inning when the Guns would take the lead 6-3 with a three run inning capped by a two rbi single from Henry Salas.  Again, 691 would answer in the bottom half of the 6th with singles from Charlie Ladore and Ally Sarapio pushing across three runs to tie the game at 6-6 going into the 7th inning.

The Guns would stay hot in the 7th with Will Taimanglo singling to set the table and Hank Salas delivering a big two rbi double to give the Guns a 8-6 lead.  691 would try to answer in the bottom of the 7th with Josh Tihpen reaching on an error and coming in to score on a rbi single from Broad Santos.  But Salas would retire Souwelian on a lazy fly to right field to pick up his and the Guns second win of the season 8-6.

Hank Salas picks up Strike Zone Player of the Game going 1 for 3 with the game winning rbi double and shutting down 691 over the final 1 1/3 innings to pick up the win.  With 3 regular season games remaining the Guns and 6912 are in a four way tie for the final 8th spot in the playoffs.

Jim Beam Amateur Baseball action continues this weekend with three games each on Saturday and Sunday.  Happy Mother’s Day from GABA and the Jim Beam Amateur Baseball League!

Ashley Samaniego and the UCLA Bruins made it to the NCAA Women’s Final Four, before losing to eventual champions UConn.
The 2007 Simon Sanchez graduate is in his first year with the Bruins women’s basketball team as the Director of Athletic Performance. This after years at California State University, Northridge in the same capacity.
Coach Ash must be bringing some goodness to the Bruins as UCLA is currently ranked #1 in the country and earned its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
