Cross Country teams from Guam and Asia Pacific gathered at John F. Kennedy High School’s track to participate in the 10th annual Asia Pacific Cross Country League Championship Saturday Morning.

The race brought high schools from Japan, China, and Korea to Guam to compete against the local high school teams for one gigantic meet.

First to compete were the girls as they raced around the track and outside along the baseball field.

Although all girls ran their hardest, it was Casey Sullivan from ISB Beijing who ended up beating everyone else for first place. “The weather was perfect for running, and the course was smooth,” said Sullivan who in her third time on Guam commented on the islands beauty, “ It’s so beautiful here and the people are so friendly,” said Sullivan.

In the boys division, all eyes were on local speedster John Aquino to see if he would grab first place and be the first local athlete to win the race. To no surprise, Aquino did just that as he broke away form the pack and finished the course in about 16 minutes.

“I know I’m ready, because I’ve been seeing the results all throughout the year,” said Aquino who was confident that he would do well in the race. “I’m not being cocky, but I know I got this,” said Aquino. “I thank God, especially him I appreciate all the good things he’s done for me.”

For both first place finishers this was their last chance to compete in this race, and they soaked in every moment.

“This is my senior year, so it was my last chance to win it all,” said Sullivan who won the race for the first on her third trip. As for Aquino, this is just one of many accolades that he set for himself not only this season but the whole year.”
