As rain continuously poured over the GNYFF youth football field Sunday, the Raiders faced off against the Angels in the third game of the season in the Matua division. The Angels’ only score was a touchdown from quarterback Tobee Franquez, but it was enough to beat the Raiders 8-6 while avoiding a late Raider comeback.
Angels running back Jaythan Lujan quickly started their offense in the first quarter, rushing swiftly past the Raiders defense gaining valuable yards. Lujan broke past the Raiders defense and rushed his way just inches near the end zone. Angel’s Quarterback Tobee Franquez took the snap through the Raider defensive wall and easily scored a touchdown. Franquez rushed for a two point conversion a play after.
In the beginning of the second quarter, with the Angels up 8-0, the Raiders’ defense got a big lift from Kekoa Gamboa, who collected a couple of sacks to stall the Angels ground game. As the Raiders readied their offense, they acted quickly to score on their next offensive opportunity. Running back Noah Diaz swiftly sprinted his way past Angel’s defense to rush for a touchdown to put the Raiders on the board, but were still trailing 8-6.

However, the Raiders PAT was stopped by Angels E. Cali heading into the half.
The Angels’ offense was no match in the first few minutes of the first quarter as the Raiders defense locked in and started to takeover. Raiders defender Javier Cruz was on point with his defense forcing two turnover on downs early, including a sack.
The Raiders tenacious defense paid off causing the Angels to fumble and turn the ball over for the game changing play. The Angels then managed to force four downs easily over the Raiders broken offense.
The game continued as both teams battled and challenged each other defensively. Angels finally managed to test Raiders offense creating multiple stops. Angels Lujan continuously rushed for valuable yards little by little, but Raiders defense never let down. As Raiders managed to get their offense back, Noah Diaz found a hole in the defense for a touchdown, but tripped and fumbled the ball allowing the Angels to recover it.
As officials went to review the play, time expired and the final whistle was blown as the Angels went on to defeat the Raiders 8-6.
