PRESS RELEASE – The Tamuning Typhoons 15U boy’s basketball traveling team is on a winning streak with a 3-0 record as they continue their tour of friendship games in Manila. The Typhoons departed Guam on July 31 and are competing in Manila thru August 6. Led by head coach Dominic Sablan the Typhoons have relied on their pressure defense to earn them their wins against the tough teams played.

“These boy’s have repeatedly practiced their man to man pressure defense back on Guam and all that hard work is paying off for them as we continue earning wins,” stated Sablan. Players traveling with Sablan include Chino Cruz, William Belger, Diallo Cruz, Scott Ulloa, Kevin and Kristopher Conlu, Henry and Brennan Haight, Aljurell and Alshcea Grape.

Summary game results:

Tamuning Typhoons 59, FB Club 40

Top scorers for Typhoons were Diallo Cruz with 17 points, William Belger with 16 points and Scott Ulloa with 11 points. FB top scorers were Zack Bernabe with 18 points and Jans Evangelista with eight points.

Tamuning Typhoons 54, Ateneo de Manila University Eagles 45

Typhoons Diallo Cruz scored a game high 16 points followed by William Belger with 14 points and Henry Haight with 11 points. Ateneo’s Rebo Anders scored 15 points followed by Beboy De Guzman with 10 points.

Tamuning Typhoons 47, Xavier School 33

Typhoons William Belger scored 17 points followed by Diallo Cruz with 16 points. Xavier’s Jammi de Ocampo with seven points and Hans Chuacuco with six points.

Ashley Samaniego and the UCLA Bruins made it to the NCAA Women’s Final Four, before losing to eventual champions UConn.
The 2007 Simon Sanchez graduate is in his first year with the Bruins women’s basketball team as the Director of Athletic Performance. This after years at California State University, Northridge in the same capacity.
Coach Ash must be bringing some goodness to the Bruins as UCLA is currently ranked #1 in the country and earned its first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
