GPA PRUVIENT CROWNED CHAMPS

PRESS RELEASE – The 2012 GPA-GWA annual basketball tournament came to a conclusion crowning GPA Pruvient the reigning champions in the win against GWA Hanom 48-39 on Wednesday at Tamuning Gym.
Pruvient’s M.J. Alvarez was named MVP and Nik Chaco received the overall top scorer award with a total of 159 points averaging 14.45 per game.

“It was a good win for Pruvient after our loss to them in the round robin. Hanom is a tough team to beat and our goal was to contain Fred Sanchez their best player if we wanted to win a championship,” stated Pruvient Coach Mike Alvarez after the game.

In the first half Pruvient’s Alvarez and Chaco came out strong offensively scoring a combined 24 points with three pointers and putbacks on offensive rebounds. Hanom’s Fred Sanchez retaliated with back to back three’s of his own that kept them trailing at the half 22-26.

Returning at the half Hanom turned to their big men Chris Obermeyer and Mike Sablan who produced points in the paint to tie the score at 31-31. Pruvient’s Roy Vigilante sank back to back threes while Mike Snell and Arman Guieb scored in the key to regain the lead and secure the win.

Chaco scored a game high 19 points followed by Alvarez with 13 points. Sanchez and Obermeyer scored 16 points and 12 points respectively in the loss.
