Right from opening kickoff, the defending champion Geckos took control of the game. Literally.
Geckos senior Dylan Naputi scored one of his three touchdowns on the opening kickoff as he and the boys beat-down the Dolphins 44-0. He scored all three of his touchdowns in the first quarter.
The Geckos used an amazing first half to build a 42-0 lead while keeping the Dolphins out of the end zone. The Dolphins have yet to put up points this season after being shutout against the Okkodo Bulldogs last week.
GW was the only team who did not play on opening weekend due to a bye and they once again look like a strong team after their first game of the season.
The Geckos defense forced five fumbles with three coming on the first three offensive possessions of the Dolphins. The defense, led by senior Frank Troy, capped off an impressive game with a safety to all but end the games scoring at 44.
All the fans could say when Naputi had the ball in his hands were, “Man, that guy is fast…” When asked about his speed, Naputi gives most of the credit to genetics.
“It came naturally, it’s in my family name Naputi. My dad [Vince] was known as the fastest man on Guam at one point and I’m just taking after the family. I also went to speed school in the states which helped me in my acceleration.”
The Geckos worked the running game well scoring four touchdowns on the ground. Senior Antonio Palacious had two big play touchdowns with first being a 22-yard scamper to the sideline followed by another sideline run from 34 yards out.
Despite putting up the highest point total in high school football this season, Naptui admitted that the coaches were not entirely pleased. Although, Naptui is set on giving it his all his senior year.

“Since I’m a senior this year I’m trying to do my best. Every time I hit the field I’m going to play 100%, even on kickoffs. I’m going to give 100% from beginning to end.”
The Geckos improve to (1-0) while the Dolphins drop to (0-2).
The Geckos will play the Guam High Panthers in a championship rematch next weekend at the Guam High Field while the Dolphins will play the first daytime game against the Sanchez Sharks. The field location has still yet to be announced.
Panthers 6, Sharks 2
After coming off a 40-point performance against the JFK Islanders last weekend, the Guam High Panthers only managed to score six against a tough Sharks defense. In a bizarre final score, the Sharks only managed to score on defense with the safety.
The Panthers and Sharks will swap opponents with the Geckos and Dolphins for next week Saturday’s football games.
