Despite gray clouds and pouring rain, the defending boys golf champion Father Duenas Friars picked up their first win of the season defeating the Okkodo Bulldogs in all four match-ups Thursday afternoon at the Guam International Country Club in Dededo. With only two golfers on the Okkodo squad, the Friars automatically won two matches by forfeit. The other two match-up wins came by senior golf standout Redge Camacho and junior ace Ricardo Terlaje.
“It’s unfortunate that most of the schools on the island don’t have enough players to fill a team, but I’m happy for the win. I had to go with my two best guys,” said FD coach Bill Reyes.
FD’s Redge Camacho, who has won many local tournaments including the BMW Junior Open, defeated Josh Bobadilla in match play 4-3 with three holes remaining. Camacho used decent drives to set up his accurate puts to secure the win.
“I feel I did pretty okay, but could’ve done a lot better. The rain was kind of distracting,” said Camacho.
Following his teammate, FD’s Ricardo Terlaje defeated Okkodo’s Ben Borja 4-3 as well in match play. The Friars Eric Tenorio and Adam Rahmani won their match-ups via forfeit by the Bulldogs.
In the first match of the season Tuesday, FD played to a draw against the St. Thomas Aquinas Lions.
