The Guam Running Club held their 28th Annual Liberation Mile race to kick off the Liberation Day festivities.

Runners enjoyed the appetizing smell of freshly cooked BBQ and were motivated by the cheering of thousands of spectators while participating in the mile-long race.

Starting for the first time at 7:21 am, in collaboration with the July 21st date, the earlier start this time around brought about conditions that were bright, hot and smoky as parade-goers began to fire up their grills. Though the conditions were slightly harsher than previous years, participants still chose to start their Liberation Day with a run.

Ninety-four participants, old and young, raced their way down the strip which began at Mark’s Hardware in Adelup and ended in front of Chamorro Village.

Jeofry Limtiaco took first place with a time of 4:56, this being his third first place win three years in a row.
